Tips For Building a Blog Audience!
Hi Readers,
I was reading a post by Sue Waters called- “The Edublogger First Birthday Celebration”
She tells her readers to write a post about one of her many choices. I chose “Tips For Building a Blog Audience”.
I am not an expert but I will tell you how I build my blog’s audience.
- The first thing a think about when trying to attract visitors to my blog is how are they going to know my blog even exists if I don’t leave a comment on their blog. Therefore the more comments you leave, the more comments and visits you will receive (sort of like the be nice and people will be nice to you theory if you know what I’m talking about).
- The second most important thing for building a blog audience is leave the readers with an easy way to leave a comment. For example in the post I wrote before this about my soccer cleats and also in many others posts I always remember to put in a question at the end or somewhere in my piece of writing. If my post was just a story that would make the reader have to think much harder, and therefore he or she might just move on to another post. If there was a question in the post the reader could simply… answer the question.
- Another minor way to attract an audience is to have an interesting avatar for when you leave comment. What I mean by that is if you have a avatar with a pizza on it maybe the person who sees your avatar will think you are into food and maybe that person is to, or if you have a soccer player avatar like me the person might assume you are into soccer.
I hope you this post helped you with building your blog audience! If you have any tips for me leave a comment and let me know. Thank You for reading!

I think these are well-thought out comments, Nicholas. I never considered number 3 before, but you are right–an avatar makes me curious. (Feel free to delete this part of the comment: fix-ups: blog’s, their, consider italics around your theory for example comma, person is too, )Is there an image that would fit the idea of audience?

Great advice Nicholas. I especially like your 3rd tip. My all time favorite avatar is Nathan Toft’s – it is soooo cool. Drop past his blog and see if you can get him to respond to your comment so you see what it looks like.

OK. Here it is.
I never thought about the importance of my avatar for attracting visitors but you seem to be onto something there! I think of it more in terms of an extension of my personality and identity.
My 5 year old son designed my avatar and I, proud father that I am, am thrilled about the positive attention it has received.
I teach a grade 5 class and one of the first blogging assignments they had was to design their own avatar. You can see what they came up with here (these are the full size pictures before they got shrunk for blogging purposes):

Hi there Nicholas,
I left you a comment on our blog but it seemed only right to leave you one here. We have had a great deal of international debate on what books we should send to America which is why I left the post open for so long so all our friends could comment. I agree it is time for a new one what do you suggest the theme of our next post should be and do not say football!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@Renata,
To put a voki on your blog you must copy the code
of your voki from the voki website and paste it in
a text widget on your blog.
Thank you for commenting.
Good Luck with your new blog!

Thanks for the advice, Nicholas. I am from Montreal, QC and I am visiting more blogs now and leaving comments. I also like your advice about leaving a question at the end of a post. I will try to do that more. Thanks!

Thank you for the advice Nicholas. My class and I are relatively new to blogging. I set one up last year and now I have begun a new one with my class of 10-11 yr olds. They will be very excited to see replies from people across the world. We will have to think about creating our own avatar. Thank you!

Those are good tips. I always post things on my classroom blog but tend to forget to say something like, “leave a comment and let us know what you think” or something along those lines. It’s such an easy thing to do.
