Six Things That Make Me Happy

Hi Readers,

I read Ms.Wyatt’s post about 6 things that make her happy. I decided I would write a post about six things that make me happy, so… without any further delay here they are.

  1. Playing Soccer- Obviously… no surprise there. I love playing soccer because it is my passion. It calms me and excites me at the same time. When I play the sport I also play it with friends so that is awesome.
  2. My Friends- My friends make me happy because they are funny and I like to hang out with them. It is always fun to hang out with a friend!
  3. Traveling- Traveling makes me happy because I love to go new places and see new things. I also meet new people on vacation. I love traveling!
  4. Talking- Kind of a weird one but if you think about it makes you feel good when you say something funny or helpfull or just plain random. Ask any of friends and they will tell you I talk a lot.
  5. Shooting Hoops- Just standing beside a basketball and shooting hoops makes me happy. It is fun to practice your aim and see how many shots you can score on.
  6. Eating Seafood- Seafood is my absolute favorite. Seafood is fresh juicy and delicious. I especially like muscles and crabs.

NBA All-Star Weekend

Hi Readers,

On the weekend I was watching the NBA All-Star Weekend. It was held in Phoenix (home of the Phoenix Suns). Nate Robinson won the slam dunk compotition. He jumped over Dwight Howard (who is over seven feet tall) and dunked. The rookie (Daequan Cook) of the Miami Heat won the three-point shootout, defeating the two-time defending champion Jason Kapono. Derick Rose of the Chicago Bulls won the skills competition and finished with an awesome dunk to show of his skills. The Shooting Stars competition was won by team Detroit.

The next day was the All-Star Game (West vs East). East had won the last three out of four before the game started. Although east had won most of the games lately west defeated them with a blowout of 146-119. The funny thing is East was leading 20-10 at one point of the game. Before the All-Star game began Shaquille O’Neil did an entering dance with the “Wokojobies”. I have no idea why the dance group is called the wokojobies by the way.

The All-Star game was extremely cool. Shaquille O’Neil had a nice give and go through the legs of Dwight Howard and then he performed a slam-dunk. During the half time show the U.S. national basketball team players were presented with rings for their gold medal accomplishment in the 2008 summer olympics. Also just before the end of the game all the players stepped aside and let Lebron James have a dunk. He put the ball of the backboard then powered it down with an impressive dunk.

My Favorite Place… My Room!

Hi Readers,

Do you have a special place?

Today our class was reading a very well written post by Stora Ines on Bringing us Together called “A Wonderful Place“. It inspired me to write this post.

I would like to congratulate my room for being rated the number 1 favorite place of mine. In my room I have a Wii. I just received my Wii for my birthday as you might of read in one of my previous posts. I have a T.V. in my bedroom to play the games on. Also because some nights I just put in a movie in my T.V. and just sit there with a cozy blanket watching one of my favorite shows.

Another thing I like about my room is my bed. I love my bed because I just got new sheets. Also I fall asleep better for some reason. Do you like your bed? What is special about it?

I would have to say my absolute favorite part of my room is my trophy shelf of my soccer trophy. The reason is they bring back memories of my favorite thing to do…. Soccer! I have trophies from my old town which I won with my old friends, therefore it can also be quite emotional. Do you have trophies of a sport you like? Also which part of your room is your favorite part?

The Forest was another favorite place of mine. It was the grouping of trees in my old house’s backyard. I would always go sit by one of the biggest trees eating my sandwich and listening to the whistle of the trees as the wind passes by. Memories there weren’t always fortunate, because one of the days I was hanging out there I got a nail in my foot. There was a wooden board with a nail sticking right out of it! I obviously didn’t know until my foot was puncture. Thank goodness it was all OK.

Where is your favorite place? What is it like? Leave a comment and let me know.

After School Snacks

When I get home I am always looking for a little something to eat (a snack). Different people like different snacks. Here are my favourite after school snacks.

  1. Sushi- I like Sushi because it has a variety of food inside a bascilly one bite snack. The best sushi is sushi you have made on your own and personalized. To make sushi you will need: seaweed, white and sticky rice, a vegetable of your choice (avacado cucumber), if you want…. add a meat of some sort such as fish or crab. Once you have gathered all the ingredients take a bit of meat and vegetables and put them in a little pile. After that wrap the seaweed around followed by wrapping the sticky rice around the seaweed…….. and voila you have your personal sushi snack.  P.S. Don’t forget soy sauce and if you are a vegetarian don’t put in meat obviously.
  2. Ham Roll Ups- Ham Roll Ups are a nice after school snack because well…..  they taste good. This isn’t really a snack I need to tell you how to make but anyway if you are wondering you take a slice of deli ham and roll it starting from one side.

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico!

If by looking at the title you guessed I went to Mexico you are right.

My family and I went on a vacation with our grandparents to Mexico. The trip there was quite convenient because it was a direct flight from the Comox Valley to Puerto Vallarta. I almost threw up on the plane though. But I am not very good with planes anyway.

Once we landed in Puerto Vallarta we had to go through a bunch of people trying to sell us time shares. After that was finished we found our way to the shuttle bus that was supposed to take us to our hotel. I was so anxious to get to the hotel. I had been looking forward to the trip for a long time.

Once I got out of the bus I was amazed. The palm trees, sandy beaches and huge swimming pool caught my eye. It is like paradise I thought to myself. We stayed as all inclusive guests (which means you pay money in the beginning and then all the food, drinks and activities at the hotel are free).

The first thing I wanted to do was swim in the pool but it was late and the pool was too cold. I didn’t fall asleep till later on because I was too excited. The noise of everybody else getting up woke me up fortunately because I didn’t want to sleep in anyway, I just wanted to go swimming.

So, right away I was in the swimming pool. The swimming pool had two basketball hoops, one volleyball net and two swim up bars (which are mini bars right beside the pool with chairs in the pool so you didn’t have to get out of the water to get something to drink). There was also a tennis court at the resort. My dad, brother and I played there a lot.

I was so amazed at the temperature, it is hotter in the winter there than it is in the summer here. We spent most of the time swimming in the pool but eventually we decided we better go to the beach before we go back home.

One night there was an awesome sunset like I’ve never seen before. My family enjoyed looking at it for a long time. Unlike a regular sunset this one did not set for what felt like a very long time.

The waves in Puerto Vallarta are pretty good. We body surfed on them all day. My dad and I rented a jet ski and zoomed around the ocean. It was really exciting. One of the people on the beach trying to sell the tourists things was a man with a huge greenish, yellow iguana with stripes and you could get your picture taken with it.

After our day at the beach we went back to the room and I spotted tons of geckos. I love geckos, they’re so cool, the way they slither around like a snake and loose there tail when they are attacked then grow it back.

That night we saw a Pirate Ship with Christmas lights on it out in the sea. A couple minutes after there were fireworks coming off the ship. It was really cool to watch. Soon after I was looking at a magazine and found out that it was a pirate ship used to take people for a pirate show.

The next day was our day downtown. We saw huge sandcastles, three times the size of me which must have been made out of really wet sand or something because they were very detailed and large. As usual my grandma and mom like to shop so it was a long day, but very enjoyable. After the shopping was finished we saw a church called The Cathedral of Our Lady Guadalupe as shown in the picture. It is a famous landmark. On the way back to our hotel we saw a play with clowns. It was really funny. There must have been about 500 people just gathered around on the street watching these clowns!

While we were downtown I bought a soccer jersey. The team on the jersey was FC Barcelona. FC Barcelona is my second favourite team right after Manchester United. They play in La Liga and their star players are Ronaldinho and Messi.

Since our plane left Puerto Vallarta at about 9:00pm we had lots of time to swim during our last day on vacation. There was a water volleyball tournament in the pool I took part in. There were some pretty skilled players. When you play volleyball in the water it is a whole different sport then playing regular volleyball. You can barely bump the ball in the water.

Unfortunately it was now time to go home. The plane ride home didn’t seem too long, even though it was 5 hours, because I watched a movie and tried to fall asleep. By the time we landed in Comox it must have been about 2:30 in the morning…… Mexican time.

Presents, Presents, Presents!

This year I got spoiled. There were so many presents on Christmas morning. I received a lot of games for my Wii, such as: Mario Kart, Rockband and Super Smash Bros Brawl. I also got Wii Fit. My favourite is….. well I don’t really have a favourite i like them all. Mario Kart is a racing game where you play with all the Mario characters. Super Smash Bros Brawl is almost the same as Super Smash Bros Melee except for there are a few new characters. From my Uncle I got tickets to see a Canucks game against San Jose. The game takes place later in the season so both Sundin and Luongo will be playing for the team. Not one of the biggest presents but one of the presents I probably enjoyed the most was….. you guessed it….. a soccer ball. It was an Adidas soccer ball with a star design. I love playing with it all the time.

What did you get for Christmas? Which present was your favourite? Also, is Christmas your favourite holiday? Leave a comment.

Christmas Memories

Who doesn’t like Christmas? The lights, candles, great food, awesome presents and best of all Santa Claus. And to answer the question I quess scrooge. On Christmas Eve my family and I go for a drive (or walk) to look at all the Christmas lights. The best part is deciding on which one we thought was the best!

My family loves the dinner we make. My grandma makes delicious, bright yellow mash potatoes with the best gravy I have ever tasted. My grandpa makes the perfectly roasted Christmas turkey. The dessert is brought in by my Auntie. She always has a gift exchange with her friends and shares all of the different types of goodies with us. To finish it off my mom brings in the trifle she always makes. It is definitely my favourite. Every layer has it’s own great taste. The fruit is ripe. The whipping cream is homemade, and the cake…. Well I don’t know about the cake part but it is delicious.
Once the dinner is finished our family always watches a movie. My brother and I always want to stay up after the movie but of course…. our grandma makes us go to bed.

I always get to open one present before Christmas. It is usually a smaller one.
One Christmas I woke up so early anxious to look at my presents and my presents weren’t even there yet so I went back to bed.

When I woke up in the morning I saw all the Christmas presents under the tree. It is my favourite time of year. I am allowed to open my stocking but I have to wait until my parents get up to open my bigger presents.

Everyone comes over on Christmas morning. My Grandparents, Uncles, Aunties Cousins and almost everyone in the family.

Next it’s snow playing time! Most of the family goes out into the backyard and has a huge snowball fight. The feeling of an ice shard hitting your body from the through of one of my uncles is not a good feeling. I even got a bruise from a snowball once.

Oh the hot chocolate…… yum, yum, yum. After I get in from the snowball fight my grandma makes the best hot chocolate. The way it warms me up almost makes me want to get cold again.

I love Christmas!

My Fun Packed Day

On Saturday after my Danone Nations Cup tryouts (which you will see a post about below) I went swimming in the morning. After that I had a delicious buffet breakfast. Later on we went to the Bug Zoo. A man there told us about all the different kinds of bugs. I got to hold many of the bugs like stick bugs (they are really awesome). The man even let me put a millipede on my face! There was also an ant farm in the Bug Zoo. Did you know one types of flies only lives two hours so it doesn’t even have a mouth because there is no point in eating if you only live for two hours. I also went to an aquarium called Undersea Gardens. We got there just in time to catch a presentation of a diver bringing an Octopus out of the back of the aquarium. He also bought out an ugly looking, 8 foot long Wolf Eel. In the other side of the aquarium there were tons of other types of fish and starfish. When we finished looking at all the cool fish we went to the Royal London Wax Museum. It was amazing. There was sculptures of pretty much every famous person ever. The sculptures looked so unbelievably real I just about talked to one thinking he was alive. To top the day off we went to Rogers Chocolates and had dessert. It was delicious.

Tell me about your weekend!

Halloween Night!

On Halloween Night (Friday) me and my friends went Trick-or-Treating around our neighbourhood. We started our Trick-or-Treating early (5 o’clock) at my friends house. Then eventually we made our way down to my house. We finished at 9. Since we had so long we had a lot of candy. I had 5 huge chocolate bars and over a hundred mini chocolate bars. For Halloween I was going to be dressed up as a soccer player but then I thought to my self… that’s just like going Trick-or-Treating as me. So I finally decided to be a punk rocker. It was a pretty weird costume but I thought it was awesome!

What did you dress up as for Halloween?

My Birthday Party!

For my birthday me and my friends went to a rock climbing gym. It was really fun because it really made us push our limits. I got to the top of a bunch of different climbing walls. My friends did really well too. After our time was up in the gym we went to the party room upstairs. We had pizza and pop for dinner. After we had finished eating pizza we brought out the cake. It was delicious. Then I opened up my presents and they were really cool. I got a Wii from my parents. And from my friends I got Wii games and some money.
