For Soccer Fans

An interesting year indeed

This year lots of stuff happened in school. Like our Hornby Island camping trip which I wrote a post about around the beginning of the year. That experience help build a great classroom community between ourselves as classmates and that has carried through the year. The same goes with blogging because we all comment on each others blogs and write posts for our classmates to read. We also all share ideas through blogging.

Events we did this year to help our classroom community were-

  • Hornby Camp
  • Christmas Musical
  • Spring Musical
  • Track and Field
  • Blogging
  • Halloween Party
  • Christmas Gift Exchange

What fun events did your class do this year? Leave a comment and let me know.

Arts Umbrella

Hi Readers,

Over the last couple of weeks our class has been taking part in a program called Arts Umbrella. We had teachers from Arts Umbrella come to our class, their names were Josh and Franziska. I wasn’t to big on the whole art idea because art is not one of my favourite subjects, but I found out we were doing a different kind of art. We used a program called Glocal. Glocal software allows users to make abstract and creative art through photos and technology. The way I made this picture was by using the Glocal software if you hadn’t already guessed. I plugged in a mini camera web cam. I set the grid to 4 by 4 and put a bigger border in just by the click of a few buttons, then I pressed the space bar and the photo was created. Your probably wondering what is in this picture, it is an electricity kit that was in our classroom because we had to use objects that were in our classroom or the computer lab. By the way some of the boxes are supposed to be blurry because I wanted the image to be abstract. The clear parts in my image reminds me of packaged unhealthy T.V. dinners. One thing I like about the image is that it is very colourful and it leaves the observer guessing what is in the image unless of course I was to spill the secret which I already did earlier in the post.

Leave a comment and tell me what you think about Arts Umbrella, Glocal and my image.

And the MVP Award goes to…

Lebron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers. Kobe Bryant was second and Dwayne Wade finished third. During the regular season Lebron (King) James averages 28.4 points per game just behind the leading scorer (and my favourite player) Dwayne Wade with 30.2 points per game. Lebron’s team, the Cavs finished first after the regular season and are still undefeated through the playoffs. Mostly because Lebron James is averaging 31.5 points per game so far in the playoffs. This is Lebrons first MVP award. For info on previous MVP award winners click here.

Whaling Project

One of our assignment in our class was to make a project for the heritage fair that relates to Canadian history. I did my project on my grandfather (a whaler). I wrote about how he worked at the last whaling station in Canada and all sorts of other things. You might be wondering what whaling is well it is were humans harpoon whales and eat the meat of the whale. We also use whales blubber and melt it in to oil, the ivory from the teeth and ambergris which can be used for perfumes.

I presented my project to the class and I made it to the district fair (the next round). At the district fair we had to present our projects to the judges first and then we were able to participate in some activities. We went to a museum, an aviation (flight) library, and a artifacts room. The following day the projects were presented to the public and the awards ceremony took place. Me and one other student from my class advanced to the regionals in Port Alberni.

The day started with judging as well. Once the judging session was completed the other students and I went to the Alberni Valley Museum, we saw a clever machine that showed us what changes the temperature of the earth. There was also rock displays in the museum.

The next activity was the library which was interesting but not my favourite. My favourite activity was the mill. We road on a train for about half an hour to the mill where we got off for the tour. The tour was great I was able to observe the whole process of the logging chopping and processing of the wood.

The following day was time for the public to have a look at our projects. Once that was finished there was an awards ceremony, I won the committee choice award but they didn’t tell us who is advancing to the next round, they will be telling us next week. I will let you know if I make it ;)

Thanks for reading. Leave a comment and tell me about projects in your class.

P.S. I am just about topublish my post with the results on the sports survey so hurry to get your answers in!

My Appreciation

I am sitting on a log in the forest. Everything is peaceful silent perhaps but I can still hear the sound of the wind brushing on branches and leaves. Also the rhythmic chirp of the birds. Everywhere I look is full of the “forest nature” colours – brown and green. I appreciate how it looks, it’s natural colour and not a different colour because of litter.

The simple yet unique pinecones surround me in every direction. High above me is the point of a large tree covered in fantastic life. I continue to shift for comfortability on the tree I am sitting on because nature is not shaped for sitting.

When I turn just to see a man-maid fence it ruins my imagination of beauty. Therefore I quickly turn away and I see humming birds chirping their “humms”. Then suddenly on of the forces of nature (the wind) changed and all the life changed with it. Branches are still, leaves stop scattering and all the birds change their tune.

I turn my head and all I see is a lot of man-maid cars turning on their engine to leave a parking lot and once again my imagination vanishes.

The End

I know everybody wants a happy ending but seriously if our appreciation for the environment doesn’t change there won’t be a happy ending.

Bullying

Are you having problems with bullying? There are many ways to prevent those problems.

One thing I know is that bullying is like a triangle because you need three things

  1. A bully
  2. Bystanders (usually the bully’s friends)
  3. Victim

If the victim tries to leave the triangle the bully will most likely continue to pick on him. I find the most effective way to solve the problem is to take out the bystanders. The reason is if there is nobody for the bully to “entertain” the bully will most likely stop.

A bystander can stop the problem without losing any of his friends. All he would have to do is explain to the bully that -it is not cool to tease other people and get fun out of it we could have more fun playing ball or something… That’s all it takes, now the triangle is broken.

However, if the bystanders do not step up there are still other ways to stop the problem. One way is to talk to the bully confidently and make him realize what he is doing. The victim can explain how the bully is getting pleasure from his pain.

Other ways are to make some friends and stick around them. A bully is less likely to bother a whole group of people then just one person.

In most cases bullies can pick out victims. They have there head tilted downward there hand are together. The victim is crouched over and usually looks away from other people.

If the victim has a confident stance (chin up, looking around, hands at your side and walking normally) that could help him avoid getting teased.

A way to stop the bullying when a victim is being bullied is to use humor or better yet change the subject. The reason is if the victim can distract the bully maybe he will not be thinking about bullying. Another way is to annoy the bully until he realizes he is not hurting any feelings, the way to do this is to repeat stop or go away until the bully gets tired.

Now that I have told you ways to get rid of the victim and the bystanders, there is one more point of the triangle… the bully. Taking out the bully is usually not the most hopeful idea. But sometimes the bully may get tired of annoying one person for a long time. What I mean is if the victim ignores the bully it will probably pass.

I hope I have offered some useful advice, and I hope that you will use my tips when you, or a friend, needs help. Thank-you.
